I'm in love with this store. This REI is clean, staff is so approachable and friendly, and the garage sale was unbelievable this year. The selection in every department is great, and all areas are very well marked. I'd trust the expertise of any staff member I crossed paths with, too. Excellent place for an adventure, both novice and experienced.
When trying to exchange it for a smaller size, they couldn’t locate us in the computer because we didn’t pay extra to join the REI membership. I was told they could not do an exchange out of fear that I bought the jacket somewhere else and was bringing it there to get a different size (because that makes sense?).
Love the store. I hope it can stay around in today's world where internet commerce is supplanting so many stores that provide a hands-on shopping experience, workers providing advice, and the ability to try some gear on for size and comfort.
I called Patagonia direct and they had no problem exchanging it for me. Bottom line: buy direct from Patagonia and avoid the headache and accusations from REI.
Purchased a Patagonia jacket here and before getting a chance to wear it, lost a significant amount of weight, so I needed a new size. The tags were still on the item but of course the receipt was long gone.
Would have been fine if we didn't get asked literally everything 3 minutes if we were finding everything alright by a different employee. There's a fine line between good customer service and making a shopping experience negative, and they jumped straight into the negative side just from the constant barrage of questioning. Let people wander and browse, that's part of the joy of shopping at REI, but apparently not anymore. Definitely will try to order online now, because I don't want to shop somewhere that I can't shop in peace.
Such Awesome customer service! They allowed me to run in at the last minute just as they were closing to pick up my Christmas gift that was put on hold by an incredible helpful young lady who helped me by phone earlier in the day! Then I forgot my cell phone at the register, and the young man at the door literally found me in the parking lot to return it! MERRY spelled “merREI” tonight as REI added joy and customer care into the hustle and bustle! Thanks REI Raleigh! Merry Christmas!
