I have had great experiences with all Alamo sites with the exception of the RDU airport. I have an Insider account and have rented cars in and out of the U.S. from Alamo and have never had issues except with Raleigh-Durham Airport.
The staff working the lots are unhappy and condescending... They have no patience for even the simplest questions (like how to exit the lot).
I was greeted at the door. Check in went smoothly. Then I was escorted out to the car! What service. Placed my bag in the trunk and made sure I didn't have any questions. At the time of return, they took bags out of the trunk and couldn't have been nicer. Great service, great car, great company! The Raleigh Durham team is awesome!
This will be the last time I rent from Alamo at this location.
The car rental went very smoothly and the car was in very good condition. But what REALLY stood out was the customer service!! I lost an item in the car that had great sentimental value to me. When I got through the desk at the airport rental location, I spoke with Luther. I explained where it was most likely lost in the car. Rather than waiting for the car to be returned, Luther went far and above expected customer service and tracked down the car and retrieved the lost item. Too often these days, employees would rather check their Facebook or Twitter accounts on their phones rather than pay attention to the customer. It was so wonderful to experience an employee who was willing to go the extra mile to help a customer. It was a great consolation to me. I often just went with whatever company offered the lowest car rental price. Not any more. If prices are not far off, I will choose Alamo as my number one choice. Thank you Luther, and thank you Alamo. You are top notch!!
I've recently rented from Alamo in both Tucson, Arizona and in Raleigh, NC. Both times I was impressed with the condition of the car. Clean inside and out. I was also impressed with the exceptional customer service and they beat the competition for price. Becoming an Alamo Insider cost nothing but pays out with great perks like free upgrades. Still, I always shop the cost in every market trying to get the very best price, but I also check reviews, as others are less expensive but then have consistent negative reviews. Not the case with Alamo. Alamo seems to always come out the winner in both price and customer service.
This location always tries to get you to add on options that are not needed. I always decline the insurance because my credit card is a secondary insurer and I must decline so that I am covered. The staff there seems to think that I am a novice at renting cars. I am not. I saw them try to get the customer next to me to add on insurance when they had already purchased insurance through the 3rd party that they rented the car from---at over twice the cost they paid.
My trip ended with a $120 fee for being 4 hours and 30 minutes late.. after a daylong road travel through rain on Christmas Eve.
I needed to add another driver and an extra day. I called the direct customer service line at Alamo and was quoted a price which was agreeable. I was told that I would have to go to the location so the other driver could show a license. When we arrived, the counter person tried to charge me $100 extra over the quote. When we told them what we had been quoted, they then gave us the quoted price. However, I now see they have tried to add a $97 charge to my credit card.
They offer no parking if you're leaving a car there... So instead you need to pay airport parking. They don't offer transport to the parking lots... So you need to go to the airport first and then take a separate shuttle.
Just an awful experience... I shopped using price as my primary motivator, and really regret it. Live and learn.
Find a company with happier employees, and I bet most of these issues go away.
