Lake Johnson has such great walking trails! Some of the trail is very uphill and difficult but it's just right to get a great walk (run/jog/dog walk) in if you want to get your heart rate up. It gives you the feeling that your far away from the city . Very peaceful. I feel safe walking here alone in the afternoon. I also enjoy the kayak or canoes. The bridge has a nice view!

On weekends, parking can fill up fast so come early or be patient. The second lot on Avent Ferry can fill up too, and if you manage to get a spot, it's not a far walk across the trail and bridge to the main facilities. Well maintained park and everyone (employees and guests) we're pretty cheerful in the days I've been there.

It's also a great place to go to rent a kayak or paddle boat, or to simply hang a hammock between two trees by the lake and enjoy some sun, peace and quiet.

The paved and unpaved trails around Lake Johnson make this a popular spot for the active crowd. Fishing is allowed from the bridge. There are boat rentals and sailing lessons in the summer. Outdoor shelters and the clubhouse are available for rent at reasonable rates, making this a pretty and economical spot for family gatherings or low-key weddings.

It definitely was a great place to bring the kids to introduce them to water activities. On other days, it has been a good place to bike ride or jog/run around the lake.

Lake Johnson is an ideal nature getaway in the heart of Raleigh. Paved greenway for walking, jogging or biking on the East side (right side) and natural trail for trail running on the West side (left side) of Avent Ferry Rd.

Reduced parking keeps the place from being too busy so you can enjoy your activities with friends and family with some room to relax.

Nice small local lake to rent kayaks for $5. Plenty of flat-bottom tandem and single kayaks available. You can event rent paddle boards if you want to give that a try.

Cheers!

If your'e looking for a nice park to get married at in the Raleigh area then you've got to check out the boathouse at Lake Johnson Park. This venue is a great place to take wedding photos too with plenty of pretty lakeside locations to choose from within a 100 ft radius of the reception area. Rain or shine, the covered back deck works out well for a ceremony spot, no matter the weather. This is important, especially if your getting married in the spring or summer when afternoon thunderstorms are a possibility (more often than not) during that time of year.
