Wakefield has a comfortable environment with nice seating due to a recent upgrade. You do have assigned seating now which means you should get your tickets early, but it saves you from having to sit through the five thousand previews.
Visited the new and "updated" theater. Was disappointed to see the new seating did not have the trays to put things on. Also the armrest in the middle does not fold up making it difficult for two people to share a bag of popcorn as well as the seats being smaller than other neighboring theaters. My date and I got more popcorn in the seats trying to share a bag of popcorn than in our stomachs! The "upgrade" does nothing to make me want to go back to this theater. The experience is supposed to be relaxing......the time shouldn't be spent trying to see who can hold the popcorn bag the longest because there's nowhere to set it. As it is now you have to purchase two bags of popcorn instead of one to even be able to sit comfortably and enjoy your popcorn and movie.
4 starts for the theater. Love the upgraded seats. 1 star for the clientele. Have had issues with people at almost every movie we have seen at this location. The clientele that go here, (not just the teens) can NOT stay off their cell phones during the movies, so we usually go elsewhere. As far as concessions go, most theatres prices are high, this one more than most, so we don't buy them.
Marquee Wakefield 12 is nice local movie theater. A few months ago I may have rated it 4 stars, but after the recent renovations I'd give it a solid 5 stars. All seats are now recliners and there's far more leg room. The exterior and interior were both upgraded and it looks much more modern. Prices are about what you'd expect at a first-run theater, though perhaps a little cheaper than competing chains.
I would give them five stars but they are still using old projector technology. Many Marquee theaters have upgraded already and this one is behind the curve.
While I appreciate the upgraded seats I am very disappointed that they are reserved seats. I typically decide day of to see a movie and now all the best seats are taken likely days before I even conceived of going. Sadly I will no longer be giving Marquee Cinemas my business.
